Our Lichtenberg Figures:
Several members of our team were fascinated by Lichtenberg Figures but were continually frustrated by their scarcity. So, we decided to conduct our own research into the underlying theory and experimentally develop improved techniques for creating them. However, since beam time and raw materials are quite expensive, we also decided to offer specimens to the general public in order to help fund future research. During each new experimental run, we've tried to "push the envelope", trying to create larger or more complex figures. Specimens from our November 2007 production run truly represent the current state of the art, and we are proud to claim that a number of these specimens are truly World Class in beauty or size. We now offer over 40 styles of Lichtenberg Figures ranging in size from affordable 2" panels and 1.5" cubes, a wide selection of medium and larger sized specimens, museum quality 17" x 17" x 2" specimens for discriminating collectors and institutions, and huge specimens measuring up to 24" x 36". Every Lichtenberg Figure ships with a one page explanation about what it is and how it was created. Since most of our figures are brand new, portions of the figure may have an amber hue, called solarization. Solarization is produced by complex interactions between the electron beam and the acrylic. Solarization usually fades with time. The fading process can be accelerated by applying gentle heat or by putting your figure in warm sunlight. Display: Many of the images on our site were taken using lighting conditions which highlight the delicate internal patterns. Similar, or even more spectacular, results can be obtained by actively lighting the figures with white or colored LED's, or by placing them in the path of sunlight or bright incandescent lighting. The reflected and refracted light makes the Lichtenberg figure glow brightly from within. We offer a variety of standard and custom LED light bases for most of our figures. As with snowflakes, every Lichtenberg figure is unique. Although your figure may differ from the examples shown on our web site, we guarantee it will be of similar or better quality. Some specimens may have a small fracture at, or near, the exit point of the discharge - this is a natural consequence of the high energy discharge process. By adding suitably engraved or lettered metal plaques to our bases, Lichtenberg Figures make memorable gifts and unique academic, corporate or retirement awards. We also offer optional laser engraving for larger specimens. Lichtenberg figures can be prominently displayed as treasured works of scientific art that enhance the decor of any room or executive office. | Style 13 These are 1.25" diameter x 4" cast acrylic cylinders with a beautiful interior discharge and polished surfaces. The
lensing action of the cylinder magnifies the figure within.

Style 18A Temporarily
in stock again - "Tesla's
Lightning". This unique 4" x 12" x 1/2" specimen has Tesla's name
written in letters of lightning. These Style 18A figures are somewhat
longer than our previous Style 18 figures and they come with polished
edges. By using a lead template we were able to selectively
charge only selected regions of the acrylic. This allowed us to
literally "write"
Tesla's name in lightning. We also carry white LED light bases
(model LM2760) for these figures. Power adapters are available for US or EC power. We also provide plug converters that permit our 240 volt EC AC adapters to be used from UK or Australian power. Only a few of these specimens are

- Miscellaneous
and Factory 2nd Specimens -
We have a
limited
number of other sizes, "one of a kind" shapes, and discounted "factory
second" specimens that may have a relatively small (1/8" - 1/2")
fracture or chip at the "root" of the discharge, some have
self-discharged and show some charring from beam current being diverted
through the figure. While less than "perfect", they are still beautiful
and unique specimens. Currently
available styles that have "factory seconds" include styles 1, 2, 3, 4,

| BD752MC Battery Powered Multicolor Light Base This
compact color changing light base is 2.25" x 2.25" x 1.13". It uses a
0.5" x 0.5" array of 4 high intensity color LED's to slowly cycle
through a variety
of
colors. The colors continually shift, illuminating different portions
of the figures. The base is black plastic with a matte finish. It
uses three "AAA" batteries (not included) and comes
with a handy ON/OFF switch. Colors cycle over a period of about 15
seconds, and housing has an attractive black matte finish. With
alkaline cells, estimated
battery life is about 40 hours.

BD753MC and BD753W
Medium Power Multicolor or White Light Base This
compact light base is 2.75" x 2.75" x 3/4". It uses a
0.75" x 0.75" square array of 9 high intensity LED's to
brilliantly light your specimen. The multicolor version slowly cycle
through a variety
of
colors. As the colors change,
they illuminate various
regions of the figure, creating a beautiful continually blending and
shifting
display. The white LED base bathes your figure in cool, bright light,

BD754W Low Profile White LED Light Base This
sleek light base has a brushed aluminum exterior and an square
array of four "cool white" LED's that lend a slightly bluish cast. This
very low profile base measures 2" x 2" and is a slim 3/8" thick. The
array of four bright white LED's is
approximately 0.8" on each side. The LED's brilliantly illuminates
smaller
3D figures. It looks especially good with our 3D Lightning Cubed
specimens (Styles 1,
2, and 22 ) and our Ball Lightning spheres. Supplied with a 120 volt AC

BD750MC High Power Multicolor Light Base This unique, compact color changing light base is 4" x 8" x 3/4". This is our brightest multicolor base, using an array
of 18 high intensity LED's that slowly cycle through a variety of
colors. As
the colors change, they beautifully illuminate various regions of the
figure, creating a continually blending and shifting display. The base is black plastic with a matte finish. LED array is approximately 1" x 2". Base is supplied with a 120 volt AC
