Masked 2D Sculptures with a single discharge layer

These specimens were masked on one side and then irradiated through the mask to create single-layer discharges only in regions that were not masked. Some specimens also show a bit of radiation fogging that further enhances the "spiral galaxy" effect. All sculptures are shown in custom walnut light bases with white LED's. Bases are also available with standartd LED colors that include cool white (7800K), natural white (4000K), electric blue, red, green or yellow. In addition, a wireless RF remote-control RGB color-changing LED option is available at addition cost. Base power options include North America/US, UK, EC, and Australian.

These specimens used lead masks on BOTH sides and were irradiated on each side. The masks blocked the electrons in some areas, preventing them from charging the acrylic regions underneath the masks. Passing the specimens through the beam, flipping them over, and passing them through the beam a second time with a second mask created two discharge layers. When discharged, the charged layers become linked with discharges that bridge one layer to the other. This creates a very unique, complex 3D "ripples in a pond" or other patterns as the discharges propagate outward from the center. Discharges propagate through the charge layers while also going back and forth between rings in the top and bottom discharge layers. The two discharge layers are separated by about 1/2", and each layer is about 1/4" below the outer surface. The following side view shows how the two-layer linked discharges were created. Photos simply cannot do these specimens justice - they are truly unique and are, quite frankly, some of the most spectacular specimens we've ever created! We're looking at ways to display these using either a pair of 3D images or a short video clip. This is the first time that these have been offered, and they will disappear quickly! Sculptures are shown in custom walnut light bases with blue or white LED's. Custom bases are also available with other LED colors (red, yellow, and green). An RGB multi-color LED option, with RF remote control unit is also available. Some sculptures may show slight yellow-green fluorescence when illuminated by electric blue LED's, or light fogging when illuminated by bright white LED's. Base power options include 120 volt North American/US, and 240 volt UK, EC, and Australian.
